Bermudo III's reign (1028-1037) begins. His minority prepares the way for Navarrese interference in the affairs of Leon. |

García Sánchez, count of Castile, had been preparing to free himself from Navarrese tutelage by marrying Bermudo III's sister, but while preparing for the wedding with Sancha he is murdered in the streets of León: no proof of Sancho III Garcés el Mayor's implication, but he takes possession of Castile in the name of his wife and designates his second son, Fernando, as heir to the county, thus establishing the Navarrese dynasty in Castile. |

Muere Berenguer Ramón I, conde de Barcelona, con 30 años. Reparte sus tierras entre sus hijos: Ramón Berenguer regirá Gerona y Barcelona (1035-1076). He would promulgate the earliest texts of the Usages of Barcelona, containing the fundamental law of Catalonia; Sancho, el Penedés; Guillermo, se quedará con Osona. |

Muere Sancho Garcés III el Mayor de Navarra. Fernando I (1035-1065), new count of Castile after the death of his father. Su hijo ilegítimo, Ramiro, recibe Aragón. Su primogénito, García, reinará en Navarra como García Sánchez III, llamado “el de Nájera”. Gonzalo, el tercer hijo legítimo, recibiría Sobrarbe y Ribagorza con el título de conde. Un cuarto hijo, Bernardo, mantuvo la dignidad condal en Pamplona. Jimena, la quinta, era la esposa de Bermudo III y por tanto reina de León. |

Las tierras entre el Cea y el Pisuerga son el punto central del conflicto entre Fernando I de Castilla y Bermudo III de León. Ambos son cuñados; sus mujeres son las hermanas Sancha y Jimena respectivamente. La lucha tiene lugar en Támara de Campos (Batalla de Tamarón), Palencia. Muere Bermudo. |
